Like any other business in services sector, human resources are the main input of freight forwarding industry. The success of forwarding companies is heavily
dependent on the training of their personnel. Until now there have been very few opportunities available for Pakistani freight forwarders to receive training
based on international standards.

As a sectoral improvement measure, the National Trade and Transport Facilitation Committee (NTTFC) Secretariat, together with Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Council (PIFFC) and with technical assistance of UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), have adapted the UN’s freight forwarding basic training course for Pakistan’s freight forwarding sector. This training comprises two streams: (i) Training for Trainers and (ii) Training for Freight Forwarders.

As a first step, the Instructors Workshop was conducted by UNCTAD’s consultants and industry experts. Four major institutes active in the fi eld participated in the workshop including PIA Training Centre, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, Tafet and College of Nautical Studies. Thirteen instructors successfully completed the workshop. The Instructors Workshop constitutes the main training program for trainers on methodological aspects following the UNCTAD TRAIN-X methodology to
conduct this validated course. It was a rigorous and interactive four-day workshop comprised on the following seven units:

  • Course Preparation
  • Course Presentation
  • Course Evaluation
  • Freight Forwarding & Modes of Transport
  • Customs and Port Procedures
  • Documentary Credits and Methods of Payment
  • Cargo Insurance and Liability Insurance

The workshop closed with a certificate distribution ceremony organized by Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Council held at Federation House. Members
of PIFFC’s Education and Training Sub-committee distributed the certificates.
This workshop will be followed-up with the ongoing Certified Freight Forwarding Courses to be offered by the four above mentioned training institutes. The training program is backed-up by a comprehensive training system jointly managed by the NTTFC Secretariat and PIFFC, who can be contacted for further information on how to participate.
